Apapa tank farms need truck loading bays – NARTO

The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has blamed the persistent gridlock in the Apapa area of Lagos on lack of truck loading/parking bays for the 60 tank farms in the area, The Punch reports.

The Executive Secretary of the association, Mr. Aloga Ogbogbo, was quoted in a report by Shipping Position as saying that each of the tank farms had the capacity to load between 100,000 and 150,000 tankers daily when products were available for discharge, resulting in congestion during the loading.

Since the Lagos ports are the collection point where vessels bringing petroleum products discharge to tank farms, vehicles queue up on the road for the products since there are no loading bays to accommodate the loading trucks while waiting for their turn, according to Ogbogbo, noting that there are close to 60 tank farms within the Apapa axis.
